Online antisemitism in the public debate on Facebook

This analysis is the first in Denmark to uncover online anti-Semitism in the comment tracks on official Facebook pages for national politicians and media. Using over 45 million comments from the past two years as a basis, and with the help of GPT-4, we have identified and analyzed anti-Semitic speech.

The conclusion is clear: when the conversation turns to Jews, every tenth comment is anti-Semitic. Prejudice, hatred, conspiracy theories and misinformation are an integral part of the public debate on Facebook. Antisemitism is thus not only limited to extreme groups and peripheral environments, but also appears on mainstream platforms where the majority of Danes interact.
