Final evaluation of the 'More children and young people on the pitch' project

The evaluation was carried out by Analyse & Tal on the basis of interviews, surveys and field notes collected by the Centre for Youth Studies during the school years 2020/21 - 2023/24.

The Centre for Youth Studies (CUR) launched the project ‘More children and young people on the pitch’ because there are too few pupils in the youngest classes who are not part of the organised leisure activities. These children do not have the opportunity to experience the haven and social communities that the organised leisure activities offer. At the same time, a significant proportion of the oldest pupils in primary school are not considered ready for education. CUR wanted to do something about these two challenges. That's why, with the support of the Nordea Foundation, they launched the 'More children and young people on the pitch' project.

The basic idea of the project is that solving one challenge could help solve the other. Pupils in the upper classes would take part in extracurricular activities during school holidays, in after-school clubs and in local associations for the lower classes.

This would introduce the younger children to club activities, while the older students would test themselves in new ways and develop some of the parameters that count in educational readiness assessments.
